NTT DATA launches C-turtle platform to cut emissions across supply chain

IT services provider NTT DATA is partnering with non-profit organisation CDP to launch its C-turtle platform, to help businesses reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the whole supply chain

The new visualisation platform will have CDP‘s global database of companies’ greenhouse gas emissions integrated, to enable users to accurately calculate real-time environmental impact and act accordingly.

A “Company-wide Emission Allocation Method” will be encouraged by the platform, to allow organisations to better calculate emissions while reflecting the impact of reductions on partner companies.

As part of NTT DATA‘s mission to reduce GHG emissions by 80 per cent by 2030, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, the company aims to aid CDP’s mission to visualise and reduce carbon emissions throughout the supply chain.

Emissions have historically been calculated by multiplying ‘activity data (amount or value of purchased products)’ by ‘emission intensity (industrial average amount of GHG being released for specific products)’ — a method that fails to account for indirect emissions of suppliers.

To mitigate this challenge, C-turtle calculates the reduction actions of the entire value chain, rather than simply calculating a single organisation’s emissions.

“We are delighted to partner with NTT DATA, an organisation demonstrating not only IT and digital business leadership but environmental leadership, too,” said Dexter Galvin, global director of corporations & supply chains at CDP.

“C-Turtle is a product of this collaboration, and our shared mission to unlock the power of the supply chain through the CDP Supply Chain program.

“We look forward to continuing our work with NTT Data, supporting companies to engage their entire value chains to disclose their environmental impacts and, in turn, achieve net zero.”
